The Forbidden City at War: How China's Museum Curators Saved a Civilization's Greatest Works of Art from Japanese Invasion
About this Event

AdamBrookes #FragileCargo

Adam Brookes is an author and a longtime foreign correspondent for the BBC. He has reported extensively from China, Indonesia, and many other Asian countries.

In 1933, facing the imminent Japanese invasion, curators evacuated a quarter-million objects from the Forbidden City. In the next 16 years, China’s imperial art collection embarked on a perilous journey across war-torn landscapes. Adam will discuss his book and the research behind this remarkable feat of cultural preservation.
