About this Event

About the Talk

Robin Radin will present his groundbreaking work: Mao's Hijacked Generation, examining one of Mao Zedong's most far-reaching social campaigns - the sent-down youth/Zhiqing movement(“上山下乡/知青") at JF Books. Based on his collaboration with a leading Chinese scholar, this compelling book reveals how the relocation of millions of urban youth to rural China during the Cultural Revolution transformed a generation and continues to influence Chinese society today.

Zhiqing Movement, one of Mao's overhauled political movement, interrupted urban youth education, lead to significant educational disruption for a generation, and deeply affected the way Chinese people think and behave today.

Robin Radin
