27/02 | 23:00 Warszawa, klub chmury On January 20, 2016, Yung Lean announced that his second studio album Warlord would release next month, in February 2016. Five days later, on January 25, 2016, Warlord (This Record is Dedicated to the Memory of Barron Alexander Machat (6/25/1987 - 4/8/2015)) was released on Amazon, iTunes, and Yung Lean's pages on streaming services, without any mention or announcement. The cover art for the album was different to the one Yung Lean revealed on his Instagram, and the songs on the album were clearly unfinished.
The album was revealed to have been released by Steven Machat, the father of the late Barron Machat. As revealed by Steven to The Fader, following Barron's passing he wanted the album to release to honor his son, and felt frustration with Yung Lean as he had left the USA before Baron's funeral had been arranged. Steven believed to have been in the right to release Warlord, as he had helped fund the creation of the album, and was an equal managing partner on Barron's label Hippos in Tanks.
Following a back-and-forth with Yung Lean's team, and disagreement with the music's values, Steven Machat removed the release.
Next month, Yung Lean's Warlord received a full rollout, and released officially on February 25, 2016.
