William Shakespeare’s name did not always evoke thoughts of prestige — he was once an unknown grappling with writer's block. While searching for inspiration to complete his latest work, Romeo and Juliet, a young Shakespeare meets Viola De Lesseps, a woman from an aristocratic family who dreams of becoming an actress.Based on the Academy Award-winning film of the same name, Shakespeare in Love is an enchanting and humorous reimagining of England's greatest playwright's creative process. Filled with classic Shakespearean elements like mistaken identity, sword fights, ghostly encounters, and comedic disguises, the play invites viewers on a delightfully romantic adventure. Presented by the SCAD School of Film and Acting, Shakespeare in Love is based on a screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard and was adapted for the stage by Lee Hall with music by Paddy Cunneen.
Tickets are $5 for SCAD Card holders; $15 for students, military, and seniors; and $20 for the public. The Thursday, March 6 performance is free with a valid SCAD Card.
