About this Event
Alex describes the ‘pebble’ technique as “originally developed from working samples produced with the free motion foot for a coastal textile exhibition. The idea was further developed over a few years and I created evening purses, cushions and garment embellishments with the fabric. In 2015 I began to teach the process and it still proves the most popular project that I offer my students – as it covers applique, fabric manipulation and combines the use of sumptuous combinations of fabrics such as metallic leatherette and silk velvet.”
On the day, you will choose from Alex’s vast collection of fabrics, you will work with your own colour way on a 30″ by 30″ cm sample which can then be used in your own cushion or bag once home. Each completed piece will be unique to you and the day offers a chance to play with textures and colour combinations whilst gaining confidence in free machine embroidery.
Alex brings a vast selection of different fabrics on the day but she also encourage participants to bring their own little scraps of velvets and silks in the favourite colours too, serving to jumpstart the selection process!
Please also bring on the day:
- £7 for materials
- Machine embroidery threads
- Fully working sewing machine with free motion foot and manual.
- Extension table for your machine if it came with one.
- Please fill a bobbin with a neutral colour thread such as grey and pop in your machine prior to the day.
- 80/12 or 90/14 machine needle x 2
- Sharp Small embroidery scissors
- Larger fabric scissors
- Plenty of pins
The workshop is suitable for beginners wishing to gain more confidence using the free motion foot. It is a good idea to have a go at free machining before the day so the technique is not completely new to you. Alex will ensue you go home a whiz at free motion – and with a beautiful piece too!
