Dear Parishioners,We are getting to the end of a Great Lent and over the coming week will continue our preparations for the Resurrection of Christ. Whatever you have decided to forego as an act of sacrifice and discipline, we invite you to consider also taking up something in its place. Each day of Lent presents an opportunity for you to do something good for yourself and for others and in so doing, honors Christ’s teachings of love and service.
Some create a prayer list and sticking by it each day, others will volunteer on weekends, drop off nonperishable groceries to local food pantries or donate small amounts to your favorite charity each week. We propose to you annual outreach effort at St. Katherine called TOLOKA (Ukrainian) and this is the preparation of our Holy church, parish hall and the outside for Christ’s Resurrection.
WHEN: SATURDAY APRIL 12th 11 AM -2 PM.
COME TOGETHER. Take up (and not only give up something) as your act of
charity during our Holy Lenten period.
See you all on April 8th!
What is TOLOKA?
It is communal work --- a gathering which takes place to accomplish a task.
A number of cultures have such gatherings, often for the purpose of
providing manual labor, as in a barn raising or other large projects.
Especially in the past, the tasks were often major jobs, such as clearing a
field of timber or raising a barn and would be difficult to carry out alone.
It was often both a social and utilitarian event. Jobs like corn husking or
sewing, could be done as a group to allow socializing during an otherwise
tedious chore. Such gatherings often included refreshments and entertainment
provided by the group. Such is the gathering we propose for our parish in
preparation for the Resurrection of Christ.
