ΓΙΑΝΝΗΣ ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΥΣΥΝΤΟΜΟ ΒΙΟΓΡΑΦΙΚΟ ΣΗΜΕΙΩΜΑ
Ο Γιάννης Κωνσταντίνου γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στη Φλώρινα, όπου από την παιδική του ηλικία μυήθηκε στον παραδοσιακό χορό μέσα από την οικογένεια και την τοπική κοινωνία. Η πολυετής ενασχόλησή του με τις χορευτικές παραδόσεις της περιοχής διαμόρφωσε το ιδιαίτερο διδακτικό και εκφραστικό του ύφος, το οποίο αντανακλά αυθεντικότητα και βιωματική γνώση.
Με βαθιά αφοσίωση στη διατήρηση και διάδοση της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς της Μακεδονίας, έχει μελετήσει διεξοδικά τις παραδόσεις των διαφορετικών εθνοτικών ομάδων της περιοχής, καθώς και τις πολιτισμικές αλληλεπιδράσεις με τις γειτονικές χώρες κατά μήκος των βόρειων συνόρων της Ελλάδας.
Σε διεθνές επίπεδο, αναγνωρίζεται ως δάσκαλος και ερευνητής παραδοσιακού χορού, έχοντας διδάξει σε σεμινάρια και φεστιβάλ σε Ευρώπη, Ασία, Αυστραλία, Αμερική, Κύπρο. Από το 1986 διοργανώνει το ετήσιο Σεμινάριο Παραδοσιακών Χορών στις Πρέσπες, το οποίο το 2024 συμπλήρωσε 39 χρόνια συνεχούς παρουσίας, προσελκύοντας συμμετέχοντες από ολόκληρο τον κόσμο.
Στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες έχει διατελέσει τρεις φορές κριτής στο Greek Orthodox Folk Dance and Choral Festival (FDF) στην Καλιφόρνια και έχει διδάξει σε ελληνικά χορευτικά σχήματα, καθώς και στα διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένα φεστιβάλ World Camp, California Kolo Festival.
Είναι ιδρυτής και πρόεδρος του καταξιωμένου πολιτιστικού συλλόγου «Λυγκηστές», με έδρα τη Φλώρινα και την Αθήνα. Με το συγκρότημα έχει πραγματοποιήσει εκτεταμένες εμφανίσεις σε όλη την Ευρώπη, μεταξύ των οποίων ξεχωρίζει η συμμετοχή στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Χορού Llangollen, όπου απέσπασαν τη 2η θέση ανάμεσα σε 120 συμμετέχοντες.
Παράλληλα, υπηρέτησε ως Καλλιτεχνικός Διευθυντής του Λυκείου Ελληνίδων Φλώρινας επί οκτώ έτη, ενώ εξακολουθεί να διδάσκει σε πολιτιστικούς συλλόγους στη Φλώρινα, το Αμύνταιο και σε πολλές περιοχές της Ελλάδας και της Ευρώπης. Το 2014 εγκαινίασε κύκλο εξειδικευμένων σεμιναρίων για δασκάλους ελληνικών χορευτικών συλλόγων, με στόχο την εις βάθος κατανόηση του ιστορικού, κοινωνικού και πολιτισμικού πλαισίου των χορών. Από τον Οκτώβριο του 2023 είναι Επιστημονικός Συνεργάτης της Παγκόσμιας Ομοσπονδίας Φεστιβάλ Χορού (FIDAF), εκπροσωπώντας την Ελλάδα. Ο Γιάννης Κωνσταντίνου είναι παντρεμένος με την Ήρα Κολώνη, επίσης διακεκριμένη δασκάλα χορού, με την οποία διαχειρίζονται οικογενειακή επιχείρηση φιλοξενίας στις Πρέσπες. Έχουν δύο παιδιά, τη Ξένια και τον Σίμο, οι οποίοι αποτελούν την τρίτη γενιά της οικογένειας που συνεχίζει με πάθος τη μακραίωνη παράδοση στη μουσική και στον χορό.

Biography
Yannis Konstantinou
Yannis Konstantinou was born and raised in Florina, northern Greece, where from an early age he was immersed in traditional dance within his family and local community. This lifelong engagement with the dances of his homeland has shaped both his distinctive teaching style and his approach to performance, marked by authenticity and deep experiential knowledge.
With a strong commitment to the preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage, he has devoted decades to the study of the traditions of Greek Macedonia, exploring the influences of the diverse ethnic groups of the region as well as the cross-border interactions with neighboring cultures along Greece’s northern frontier.
Internationally recognized as both a teacher and researcher of traditional dance, Yannis has taught at seminars and festivals across Europe, Asia, Australia, USA, Cyprus. Since 1986, he has organized the annual Traditional Dance Seminar in Prespes, which celebrated its 39th anniversary in 2024, drawing dancers and musicians from around the world.
In the United States, he has served three times as a judge at the Greek Orthodox Folk Dance and Choral Festival (FDF) in California and has been a guest teacher for numerous Greek-American and Canadian ensembles. He has also taught at internationally respected events such as Ahmet Lüleci’s World Camp and the California Kolo Festival.
He is the founder and president of the distinguished cultural association “Lygkistes”, based in Florina and Athens. Under his direction, the group has performed extensively throughout Europe, including at the Llangollen International Dance Festival, where they won second place among 120 competitors.
In addition to serving as Artistic Director of Lygkistes, Yannis was for eight years the Artistic Director of the Florina branch of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women (Lykeion Ellinidon). He continues to teach in cultural associations in Florina, Amindeo, and throughout Greece and Europe. In 2014, he initiated a series of seminars designed specifically for the leaders of Greek dance associations, with the aim of providing a deeper understanding of the cultural, social, and historical context of the dances they perform.
Since October 2023, Yannis has served as a Scientific Associate of the Federation of International Dance Festivals (FIDAF), representing Greece.
He is married to Hra Koloni, herself an accomplished dance teacher and manager of the family-run guesthouse in Prespes. Together, they have two children, Xenia and Simos, who represent the third generation of the family devoted to the preservation and transmission of traditional dance and music.
