About this Event

Scorpio season is just around the corner and this year I want to celebrate my birthday by throwing a big Balkan-style party and fundraiser in solidarity with the youth-led democratic protests in Serbia, which have been going on for almost a year now.

Expect high-energy Balkan music, lots of dancing, and delicious traditional food available by-donation with all funds going towards food, medical supplies, and legal aid for the ongoing protests.

Let's party so hard that they hear us all the way in Serbia! Pumpaj do pobede! ("Keep pumping til victory!")

Since November 2024, massive youth-led anti-corruption protests have swept Serbia, triggered by the tragic collapse of a train station canopy in Novi Sad (which killed 16 people). Students and citizens are demanding full transparency, accountability for those responsible, publication of documents related to the station’s renovation, and systemic reforms - particularly confronting widespread corruption, lack of rule of law, and weak institutional oversight. Though there have been some political consequences (resignations, promises to release documents), protests continue - blockades, sit-ins at universities, large street actions, clashes with police - reflecting deep frustration with the governing authorities under President Vučić and allies. In recent months, the situation has grown to a crisis point with hundreds of protesters unlawfully arrested and severe actions by the government to repress the protests (e.g. police brutality, chemical weapons, tear gas, etc.) and there is a need to raise funds to support direct aid to protestors (e.g. food, medical supplies, legal aid, etc.). All proceeds from this event will be donated to the central fundraising campaign Support the Students which disburses funds where they are most needed on the ground.
