Vendégekkel kiegészült felállással és a közösségi zenélés irányába tartó koncertekkel tért vissza tavalyelőtt az akkor épp tíz éves Dorota. 2019-es legutóbbi lemezük, a “Solar the Monk” középpontjában a szerzetesség metaforája áll. A korábbi szerzemények szabad improvizáció felől jövő gyakorlatai után a Dorota új lemezén nyers és erőteljes punk-rock hangzások keverednek szúfi, berber, mongol, buddhista hatásokkal és a transzállapothoz közelítő zenei formákkal. A 444.hu a “Solar The Monk I.” c. számot az évtized harmadik legjobb dalának választotta, a Recorder.hu nemzetközi albumlistáján pedig az első helyet kapta a lemez.
A Dorotát 2009-ben alapította a népzenei és szabadzenei szcénában mozgó Porteleki Áron, aki gyakran tűnik fel kortárstánc darabok zeneszerzőjeként is, az improvizatív és gamelán zenei világban korábban aktív, most inkább kreatív gyerek-foglalkozásokat és játék-eseményeket vezető Makkai Dániel, valamint Somló Dávid gitáros, interdiszciplináris művész, aki leginkább hangperformanszairól ismert. Habár a zenekar működését inkább a “ritkán nagyot” elv határozza meg, műfajokon kívül álló zenéikkel rövid idő alatt a budapesti kísérleti könnyűzenei színtér fontos szereplőivé váltak.
A nem európai kultúrák zenéiből, nem-temperált hangolásokból, az amerikai minimalizmusból és a pszichedelikus, rituális zenékből inspirációt merítő Decolonize Your Mind Society-t 2018 végén hívta életre Szabó Bálint Gosheven, természetes kiterjesztéseként korábban megkezdett útjának. A zenekar megszólalása világszinten is egyedülálló, hiszen a jávai zenéktől a közép-afrikai polifónián át a japán udvari szertartászenékig, vagy a tiszta hangolású indiai zenétől a közel-keleti makám semleges tercein át a földöntúli hangzású tibeti gyaling kürtökig több ezer éves kultúrák zenéit fogja át és értelmezi újra soha nem hallott módon, a modern kor nyújtotta technológiák segítségével.
Ezen az estén a tavaly ősszel megjelent első lemezük anyagát mutatják be, amely a tiszta hangolás rendkívül színes világát tárja elénk varázslatos módon. A különleges hangolások mellé sok különleges hangszer is társul, többek között Szabó Bálint tiszta hangolású gitárja, vagy Váczi Dániel saját fejlesztésű tárogató-szerű fúvós hangszere, a glissotar.

What turns a one chord song into a spiritual practice? What connects together improvisation with gang vocals, sufi rave music to tape loops? In 2019 Budapest-based band Dorota released their third album titled “Solar the Monk” last autumn, celebrating their 10 year anniversary.
Dorota was founded in 2009 by three Hungarian musicians, Aron Porteleki, Daniel Makkai and David Somló. With the success of their first untitled adventurous art-rock album, and their second triple(!) album ‘Frik’ the band has become a major player in the experimental music scene of Budapest, and is celebrated as one of the most unique contemporary bands in Hungary.
Their third album "Solar The Monk" focuses on the metaphor of being a monk, which – how strange life is – gained a stronger and closer meaning than ever before during quarantine-times. Solar The Monk is a retreat, a reflection, the exploration of new ways and forms of existence in a world rushing to the end.
Following the practice of earlier records on free improvisation, Dorota's new album blends raw and powerful punk rock sounds with Sufi, Berber, Mongolian, Buddhist influences. Despite its diversity, the nearly hour-long album 'Solar The Monk' manifests in a coherent listening experience. Dorota's creating method is always building around a mystical fictional space. “If we were to imagine the band's recordings with visionary landscapes, while the first album was a North American roadtrip, our second album, 'Frik' screened between a Nigerian internet cafe and a foggy mountain, the home of our third album, 'Solar The Monk' is somewhere out of existence Georgian-Iranian-Mongolian border.”
The album has been elected the best album of the year by many music media platforms in 2019, and the title song was also chosen the third best song of the 2010s by Hungary’s leading music platform, Recorder.hu

Inspired by non-European traditional musics, non-tempered tuning systems, psychedelic ritual performances and the legendary Jon Hassell's Fourth World music, Budapest based Decolonize Your Mind Society was founded by Nicolas Jaar’s Other People label and Opal Tapes affiliate Bálint Szabó Gosheven as a natural continuation of his creative focus and work. The band has an absolutely unique sounding thanks to the special instruments they use like the glissotar wind instrument or the refretted just intonation guitar, not to mention the retunable analog synthesizer that further expands their mind blowing musical planet. They float in a hazy no man’s land between microtonal psychedelic rock, avant-garde, jazz and experimental music. Just intonation music needs new approaches, new instruments and their effort on their debut record seems quite extraordinary. On “Anabatic Prism” they tried to celebrate life through the sheer joy of playing together and they wanted to present these extremely colourful tunes to the public as a reminder that there is always a bright side of this amazing magical universe.
