A night of experimental music, short films, and contemporary art to launch Zyla, a new multidisciplinary (meta)label.
Zyla is part of a global network of metalabels: organisations expanding the record label concept to encompass multiple modes of creativity and methods of release.
Founded and curated by composer/guitarist/producer Alex Roth, Zyla presents projects that combine music, visual art, literature, live performance and digital experiences. Releases take myriad forms across both existing platforms and emerging spaces such as web3 and the metaverse. Zyla’s curatorial practice manifests as Scenes: rosters of artists collaborating across disciplines to form ad hoc collectives.
Tonight Zyla launches Scene 1 with the release of the label’s first two EPs and an array of interconnected works including live performance, two short films, a suite of NFT drops, and an exhibition of drawings.
Programme:
Exhibition: Jacqueline Nicholls (drawing, animation), Miriam Gamble (poetry)
Screening: Rūta Pužaitė (film), Kasia Witek (choreography), Alex Roth and Alice Purton (music)
Performance: Alex Roth (guitar, electronics) and Alice Purton (cello)
Screening: Arturo Bandinelli (film) and Celina Liesegang (choreography)

Rūta Pužaitė
A filmmaker that is turning towards the light; observing – in awe – the way it falls, reflects, shapes, enhances and hides. Its softness and sharp angles, the way it bounces off the windows to the walls of opposing buildings, the way it is caught by the eyes. A listener, above all: of stories in whatever form they come, striving to notice and document the fragile human moments before they fade.
