‘Music is magic & songs are spells': Zoë Howe on the transformational power of rock ’n’ roll. An in conversation hosted by Mikey Garland
About this Event

Music author, Louder regular and Soho Radio’s ‘Rock ’n’ Roll Witch’ Zoë Howe waves her wand to conjure something a little different for Louder this year. In support of her empowering new book Witchful Thinking: The Wise Woman’s Handbook For Creating A Charmed Life, Zoë unpacks her favourite mantra - 'music is magic and songs are spells’ - in this uplifting talk that explores the very real magic of rock ’n’ roll. This discussion will draw on the transformational work of some of music’s own wise women - and wise men - and consider how a song, a performance or just a chord can prompt a change of state.

We have two ticket options available: * Event Only and *Event with Discounted Book Combo deal - books will be available for collection at the Festival.

Our event will be followed by a dedicated signing event with Zoë. RRP books will also be available for purchase on the day.

Zoë’s other books include The Jam: 1982, co-written with Rick Buckler - launching at Louder this year; The Art of Punk (2022 update) and biographies of Stevie Nicks, The Slits, Poly Styrene, the Jesus and Mary Chain, Lee Brilleaux, Wilko Johnson and others. Her novel Shine On, Marquee Moon was shortlisted for the Virginia Prize for Fiction in 2016. Zoë was one of the founding team behind the award-winning documentary Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché and her radio show Rock ’n’ Roll Witch - a mellow and magical two hours of music and esoteric musings - broadcasts monthly on Soho Radio. Zoë occasionally plays drums, and has worked musically with Viv Albertine, Helen McCookerybook, Steve Beresford, Mick Jones, Wobbly Lamps, Platypus and others.
