Join us for our first ever Zouk dance class series in Winston-Salem! Zouk is a Brazilian partner dance, done to a wide range of modern and latin music, known for its fun, flowing, graceful moves and options for close embrace to "wi-fi" and everything in between.
This class series is designed for beginners+. Event if you've got some zouk experience, join and help us build a zouk community here in Winston Salem!
The series will be progressive, but if you can't make every class, you'll still be able to learn and dance. Taught by long time dancers Andrew Pearson & Julia Barry. Our plan (subject to change) is:
Nov 4: Zouk count & basic, cross-bodies (L & R), with single turns, Viradinha ("little turn"), lateral, Soltinho (circular orbits) variations
Nov 11: Zouk count & basic, spinning top, double turns, yo-yo, bonus ("boomerang") turns
Nov 18: Zouk count & basic; head movement in place, basic, and traveling; traveling tilted turn; body rolls
Nov 25: Zouk count & basic; elastico + raul (w/ hair flips), bate cabelo (figure 8 hair), lateral w/ reverse turn, reverse lateral, leading from behind w/ head movement.
p.s. hair length does not matter at all 🙂
p.p.s while in some dances, gender roles typically map to lead/follow roles, in zouk, it's welcome to try the role that suits you!
