Mining the shadows of masculinity, mental health, and modern American despair, McAuliffe has been described as “a teddy bear filled with poison” and “like if John Prine had CTE.” Equal parts hilarious and harrowing, his performances leave audiences torn between hugging him and calling a therapist.
