Good Morning North and Westsiders!
I invite you to the Library Station, Thursday, Feb. 12th at 5:30-7:30 for a Zone 1 Townhall. I am the host. As a note, this townhall will focus on everything EXCEPT the convention center, though, I will briefly cover Question 1 that will appear on the April ballot for registered voters.
I want to talk about current and planned city tax dollar investments in Zone 1 and policy priorities & strategies that will have a direct impact on the livability, desirability, and attract-ability of Zone 1. That means I want to talk about Kearney Street, Historic C-Street, West Chestnut Expressway, Historic Route 66 (West College Street)…and everything location in between!
Budget and policy is what the council does every week to do our legislative duty to address code/law enforcement, vacant/nuisance residential/commercial property, improvements to neighborhood recreational amenities, housing availability and quality, visitor attraction to patronize the businesses we love in Zone 1, litter abatement, vibrant commercial hubs, speeding on our streets, alleyway enhancements, flood mitigation, sidewalk access. These topics, in some form or fashion, are what city council takes budgetary and policy action on every week.
When Zone 1 constituents see something falling through the cracks (sometimes perpetually) on the above topics we are doing a combination of:
1) working on policy solutions in committee.
2) reviewing staff proposals for sustainable solutions.
3) inquiring of the administrative/enforcement arm of our local government through the Council’s only employees: the city manager David Cameron and the city clerk Anita Cotter.
In closing, share this email and invite someone in Zone 1 who’s less likely to know their Zone 1 Councilmember or have few interactions with local government.
As always, if something needs attention from city staff call 417-864-1010.
See you soon!
-Councilmember Horton
