About this Event
Please join the Ramsey Center for Appalachian Studies for our annual spring concert. This year, we are proud to welcome Western North Carolina's own Zoe & Cloyd.
2025 marks the 10-year anniversary of Zoe & Cloyd, which grew out of the partnership of fiddler/vocalist Natalya Zoe Weinstein and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist John Cloyd Miller. They will be featuring material from their latest release, Songs of Our Grandfathers, which is an homage to their respective bluegrass and klezmer roots. For this show, they will be joined by long-time collaborator Kevin Kehrberg on bass, and innovative musician Ben Krakauer on banjo and guitar.
The unique “klezgrass” music of Zoe & Cloyd springs from their rich family traditions and complementary backgrounds and styles. Descending from a lineage of klezmer and jazz musicians, Natalya trained classically in her home state of Massachusetts before moving south in 2004. John, a twelfth generation North Carolinian and grandson of pioneering bluegrass fiddler, Jim Shumate, is a 1st place winner of the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest and the Hazel Dickens Songwriting Contest. Based in Asheville, NC, Natalya and John are also experienced educators and are both instructors in the traditional music program at Warren Wilson College.
Tickets are priced on a sliding scale to ensure that this experience is available and accessible to all. Seating is first-come, first-served. Doors will open at 7:00 and the show will start at 7:30 pm. They will go on sale here on Wednesday January 29, at 8:00 am.
This concert is supported by a generous grant from the Madison County Tourism Development Authority.
