Ziegfeld Follies - SKDC Boot Camp XVI Sister Kate Dance Company Boot Camps are a chance for you to get to experience what it's like to be a Chorus Dancer!
About this Event

Join the Sister Kate Dance Company for a BRAND NEW 4-week class experience, where students will learn a classic style chorus line choreography to perform for the public.

VACCINATED (with all up to date boosters included) + MASKED ONLY

If you have longed to dance in a group of like-minded jazz dance lovin' souls, then this series is for you!

Over the course of 4 weeks, you will:

  • Learn an original choreography, choreographed by a Sister Kate dancer
  • Work on performance presence on stage
  • Connect with other eager and enthusiastic dancers in town
  • Perform the routine (in person unless Covid safety dictates otherwise) in front of a live audience

This February 2022, we'll be learning a brand new slow and romantic fan dance routine, inspired by the beauty of the Ziegfeld Follies of the 1930s.

------------------- WHO IS INVITED -------------------

Anyone (21+) who is happy to wear the “team costume” is WELCOME to take part; all genders welcome, you only need to wear the team costume as planned for everyone!

Note: This class will be in person, with all students being required to show proof of vaccination (including boosters) before the start of class, and all students and teachers wearing masks during class sessions (as currently recommended by state mandate). IF, in the event that the CDC and King County Public Health deem it is unsafe to continue dancing indoors together, we will shift to virtual for the remainder of the class and for the performance.

------------------- WHAT ROUTINE WILL WE LEARN? -------------------

We will be learning an original choreography by company member, Robin Nunnally, that will invoke the beauty and elegance of classic Ziegfeld Follies stage productions.

------------------- WHAT WILL I WEAR? -------------------

For class sessions, wear anything comfy that you can move and sweat in + your mask. We recommend that you wear the shoes you will perform in so you are accustomed to how they will feel.

For the performance, we are asking dancers to wear black convertible wrap dress, roughly $20-30 in cost. Please don’t purchase any new pieces before we have a chance to discuss costumes in person in the class and answer questions. Masks will be required for performing unless otherwise stated by state mandate.

We also ask that all students wear some sort of black t-strap character shoe heel. We recommend either Bloch brand or Capezio (1.5-2" is best). The good news is that we wear these shoes for 99% of our boot camps, so it really is a one time investment. Need more info? Feel free to reach out!

------------------- Q & A -----------------------

DO I HAVE TO PERFORM OR CAN I JUST TAKE THE CLASS?

It is not required that you participate in the performance to take the class, although what's the fun in that?

CAN ANYONE PERFORM?

As long as you are willing to wear the "costume look", and attend all the class rehearsals (or catch up via video if need be), then you're absolutely in for performing!

WHAT IF I HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS LATER?

You can post them to our student Facebook group, or email us at [email protected].

WHAT DO I DO AFTER I SIGN UP?

Keep an eye on your email account (check your spam folder, too!) for student prep emails coming from Sister Kate leading up to the class!

PHYSICAL DISCLAIMER

We will start off each class with some sort of warm-up, whether that be a freestyle dance or simply running the routine choreography we've learned. Please note that due to our limited time together, we don't have time to stretch while together, so please make sure you stretch on your own once your web camera is turned off!

CODE OF CONDUCT

We treat each other and ourselves with respect and compassion. We strictly prohibit discrimination and harassment based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, disability, or any other status protected by federal, state, or local laws.

COVID SAFETY

Sister Kate Dance Company has been busy following the CDC guidelines and suggestions from medical professionals within our dance community. Currently, our plan for our October Boot Camp is to meet IN PERSON, vaccinated (including boosters) AND masked, unless we are directed by the CDC (and otherwise advised by dancers who are in the medical industry) to no longer meet in person out of safety. Should that occur, our class will shift to virtual remote, even if that happens mid-way through the series. As our students, your safety is our top priority.

REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY

  • We allow refunds for our camps up to 2 weeks before the scheduled Boot Camp start date! This allows us to choreograph for a known number of attendees and not disrupt formations/numbers. Otherwise, your ticket is transferable (please reach out for additional info)
  • In the event of a cancellation by SKDC, we will refund your full amount asap.
