Kim Cyr is a certified Zentangle teacher who has been teaching Zentangle for over 20 years. Zentangle is a form of art meditation which is used to relax your mind while drawing repetitive patterns, resulting in beautiful and unique art. Zentangle is non-representational so anyone who can follow instructions, can draw. There is no skill involved. Because students are focused on what they are being asked to do, not knowing the end result, the focus is on the process itself. Self doubt, stress and anxiety are reduced because the mind is engaged in a zen-like experience and is focused on the now.
Zentangle was created in 2000 by co-founders Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. Rick, the Zen, was a buddhist monk and meditation teacher while Maria, the Tangle, was a lettering and design artist. The two realized that a certain zen state of mind could be reached by focusing on drawing in repetitive strokes, much like Maria would experience when she was creating her lettering.
