Discover the traditional Korean intensive meditation: Yong Maeng Jong Jin (YMJJ).
Location: Diamond Hill Monastery at Providence Zen Center (Cumberland, RI)
Yong Maeng Jong Jin means ‘to leap like a tiger while sitting’! This intensive form of meditation invites you to become fully awake and pay attention, just like a tiger. This retreat provides an introduction to Zen practice forms, including sitting & walking meditation, chanting, bowing, and Kong-an (Japanese: Koan) interviews. The retreat is led by a Dharma Master or Zen Master in the Kwan Um School of Zen, a global community of Zen practitioners.
You may sit one day or both days of the silent retreat. No previous experience is necessary.
Retreat Fees:
- $80-$100 per day including meals; $220 for both days, including overnight stay
- Pay $20 deposit now to reserve your seat; balance is due 3 days before retreat date
Schedule:
Day 1 (Saturday)
- 8:00 AM On-Site Registration Starts
- Arrive by 8:30 AM to allow time to Check-In and for room assignments
- 9:00 AM: Retreat Orientation
- 10:00 AM: Retreat Day 1 Starts
- 9:30 PM Retreat Day 1 Ends
Day 2 (Sunday)
- 4:30 AM Retreat Day 2 Starts
- 9:00 AM: Retreat Start/Orientation for Sunday-only participants
- 3:00 PM Circle Talk
- 4:00 PM Retreat Ends
