Experience a transcendental evening of innovative World Electronic fusion music featuring
ZAR ELECTRIK – Afro-Moroccan trio from Marseilles
&
PIQSIQ – Inuit throat-singing ambient electronic sister duo
ABOUT ZAR ELECTRIK (France / Morocco)
The captivating trances of African Electro
Zar Electrik’s music knows no codes or borders. This is the meeting of two friends from Marseilles: There’s Anass Zine, with his mesmerising North African-influenced voice and a range of traditional instruments (gumbri, oud…), and Arthur Péneau, with his deep voice, adding hybrid African influences thanks to his kora, which he mystifies with electric effects.
The connection with Miosine (Didier Simione) is a real highlight. He is the last member of the trio, adding his knowledge and mastery of machines, synthesizers, and electronic music codes.
The result is simply spectacular. Their music is rich and vibrant, a transcending journey between the Maghreb, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the West. Their music pays homage to tribal cultures – their name refers to an Egyptian ritual designed to dispel evil spirits and serve as a conduit for healing achieved through trance and connection with the spirit world.
Annass ZINE : Voice, Oud, Gumbri, Guitar, Carcabas, percussions.
Arthur PENEAU : Voice, Kora, percussions
Didier SIMIONE : Sound Machines, synthesizers
ABOUT PIQSIQ
With a style perpetually galvanized by darkness and haunting northern beauty, sisters, Tiffany Ayalik and Inuksuk Mackay, come together to create Inuit style throat singing duo, PIQSIQ. Performing ancient traditional songs and eerie new compositions, they leave their listeners enthralled with the infinity of possible answers to the question “what is the meaning of life.”
With roots in Nunavut’s Kitikmeot and Kivalliq Regions, the sisters grew up in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Their love of katajjaq, Inuit throat singing, began in childhood and has bonded them together throughout their lives. After years of forging hard won skill, they developed their own form blended with their love of haunting melodies and otherworldly sounds. As PIQSIQ, they perform improvisational looping live, creating a dynamic audience experience that changes with every show. PIQSIQ incorporates their dark and ethereal style into their recordings and have produced three studio albums to date.
Inuksuk and Tiffany continue to blend magic with sound to further develop their entrancing style for both national and international audiences.
