The sixth album from “the Laureate of the lonesome song”, Zachary Lucky, The Wind is a poignant exploration of life's unexpected journeys and the winds that shape our paths. Through a series of evocative songs, Lucky crafts a tapestry of characters at crossroads, grappling with the unpredictable twists of fate. Each track delves into themes of change, love, and the perpetual motion of life, capturing both the heartache of love lost and the joy of love found. With its reflective storytelling and atmospheric melodies, The Wind offers a soulful reminder of the beauty and uncertainty that accompany our personal journeys. “The Wind feels like the album I’ve been trying to make my entire career,” remarks Zachary. “I’ve always tried to create albums that really put the song and story front and center, making the listener feel like they’re right there in the room with us,” and The Wind does just that. It carries an air reminiscent of those legendary Guy Clark recordings, with understated and stripped-back instrumentation and no fancy production, leaving space for Zachary’s baritone voice and stories to shine. “I’ve always found the recording process to be tough, as if something had to be exhumed, and making The Wind was no different. We had just come of fa ten-date tour throughout Eastern Canada and were pretty exhausted and emotionally raw. I’ve always found myself trying to be something I’m not in the studio, but I think the state we were left in from the road gave me no choice but to be completely who I am. ”It’s a relatable record on many fronts, with songs about the comings and goings, the finding and losing of love, and how we often find ourselves in places in life that we didn’t expect. These recordings have a grit to them and a timeless quality that makes them hard to place—are they from the past or the future? Like many of the great Townes and Guy records, this album requires a bit of effort from the listener, but, like all of those albums, it is sure to be a gem among the rough in any folk, roots, and country record collection. With two singles already released, The Wind is well on its way to finding its audience. “Jasper” and “Ramblin’ Kind” have received an incredible amount of radio play around the world, featuring on BBC in the UK and CBC in Canada, as well as countless college and community stations worldwide. The first two singles alone have amassed nearly 80,000 streams in the first couple of months of their release. Brought together by their love of good songwriting and vintage analog gear, The Wind was co-produced alongside friend and fellow songwriter Benjamin Dakota Rogers. Zachary was joined by an all-star cast featuring Miles Zurawell on dobro, Andrew Collins on mandolin, Sam Clark on fiddle, Peter Klaassen on upright bass, Will Fisher on drums, and Rebekah Hawker on vocals. The release of The Wind will be accompanied by a string of regional tour dates around Ontario and Quebec throughout November 2024. Zachary already has his sights set on the map for 2025, with plans to bring these new songs coast to coast across Canada, around Europe, and throughout the United State. TheWind is set to be released on November 1, 2024, on Wroxton Recordings. Fans can pre-order their copy of The Wind on vinyl and CD at www.zacharylucky.bandcamp.com starting October 1st, 2024
