About this Event

The annual SLP benefit is back & we’re VERY excited to gather in person after all this time!

Please join us on the evening of June 8, at the lovely Gibney Dance in lower Manhattan, to help us celebrate the bright, bold vision of SLP youth. We’ve been so inspired, during these incredibly challenging times, by the determination and optimism of SLP students of all ages - and we can’t wait to share their amazing work with all of you!

Along with cocktails, snacks, and good company, the evening will include the hilarious Jo Firestone (www.JoFirestone.com) as emcee, a vocal performance by Brooklyn teens and an opportunity to honor two amazing New Yorkers:

Civic Hero: Katy Gaul-Stigge

  • A major force in workforce development strategy, Katy Gaul-Stigge is President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, Inc., one of a network of 161 national organizations serving individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Gaul-Stigge gained national and international attention for her development of Mayor de Blasio’s Career Pathways strategy when she served as the Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development. In her fourteen years of city service, she also led key City-wide agencies including as Deputy Commissioner at the Human Resources Administration (HRA) and Assistant Commissioner at New York City’s Small Business Services (SBS). In her current role at Goodwill, Gaul-Stigge oversees the operations of 57 Goodwill NYNJ programs and 37 retail locations in the NYC metropolitan area, Northern New Jersey, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and the capital region of NY. A graduate of Columbia School of Social Work and Mt. Holyoke College, Gaul-Stigge is a member of Coro Leadership NY and Greater NY, a Board member for the Human Services Council, and a mentor for 92 St Y Women in Power fellows.

Change Agent: Samirah Horton

  • 13 year old Samirah Horton, also known as DJ Annie Red, is a 2022 Time Magazine Kid of the Year Finalist from Brooklyn, NY. An award winning DJ, an activist, and author of "The Bully Stop," DJ Annie Red is also a recipient of the Danny Glover Power of Dreams Music Award. DJ Annie Red uses her music and social media platform to spread an anti-bullying message to young people across the country.

The benefit is also an opportunity to support our founding goal to cover the expense of 50% of our students every year. As always, all proceeds will be used to bring SLP’s youth programs to schools in under-served NYC neighborhoods and to provide scholarships to our virtual SLP Labs.
