IMPORTANT NOTE
The Guided Peer Support Group Meetings are an opt-in wave of the Youth Practitioner Wellbeing Programme. This means that in order to support Gary taking our groups on a complete, group psychotherapeutic journey you must ensure that you are available for all 8 sessions before opting into this wave of support.
What is a Guided Peer Support Group Meeting? Hear directly from Gary,
"Working with young people as a youth worker or therapist is an extremely rewarding job. It’s also taxing and hard work. We can often question if we are really making a difference. The guided peer support group meetings are an opportunity to reflect on our own wellbeing, what toll is our jobs having on us? What do we do to take care of ourselves? It’s also a space to think through the presenting issues and themes that are coming up in our work with young people and the dilemma on how we respond to these issues. It’s also a space to make better sense of ourselves and how we relate to the world around us, Sounds scary right? The above are just some examples ultimately the group will help steer and shape what the sessions look like."
Gary Hibbins will be facilitating the groups. Gary has worked in the charity sector for 21 years; he is currently the CEO of the Abingdon Bridge. Gary is also a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor and group therapist.
The wellbeing days will take place at the Oxfordshire Youth Office.
The Youth Practitioner Wellbeing Programme cohort will be split into 2 smaller groups which will meet for the sessions, Group A will meet from 1:00pm - 2:30pm and Group B will meet from 3:00pm - 4:30pm on the below dates.

These Specialist Training Sessions are designed to boost your practice working with young people. We know that the issues we are presented when working with young people are increasingly complex and challenging. Our training topics have been carefully selected to help you manage and support with these issues.
The Specialist Training Sessions will take place at the Oxfordshire Youth Office.
Dates for these trainings are still being confirmed but all trainings will take place from September 2024 - February 2025.

These Monthly 1:1 Check-Ins will take place at a time and setting that is convenient for you. You will meet with Sam Claxton, our Youth Sector Wellbeing Coordinator. They can be in person, or remote. Sam will meet with you regularly to have a genuine 1:1 Check-In.
How are you feeling? How are things with your work? Is there anything we can do to support with your wellbeing?
These Check-Ins will take place monthly from July 2024 - February 2025.
Who's invited?
This programme is open to all third sector staff and volunteers supporting young people.
Why attend?
The impact of working with children and young people recovering from the pandemic and now enduring the cost of living crisis can be significant.
We want to support you to thrive, reduce your burnout and stress, increase your empowering support networks and champion our sector's mental health.
Join us on our fully-funded wellbeing programme and let us help you do the following:
- Address the demanding nature of your role by prioritizing your own well-being.
- Boost your practice by attending up to six specialist training sessions on topics such as psychological safety, non-violent communication, self-harm and suicide.
- Reflect on your own wellbeing in a group psychotherapeutic space. Think through the presenting issues and themes that are coming up in your work and how you respond to these issues.
How much does it cost?
This programme is fully funded, though spaces are limited and we are operating on a first come, first served basis.
IMPORTANT NOTE
When signing up, please ensure that you have had a conversation with your line manager and received approval to attend all the sessions. We ask for your line managers email and phone number in order for them to be able to digitally sign your registration contract. This process is much smoother when they are aware of the programme and on board with it.
Sam Claxton, our Youth Sector Wellbeing Coordinator is happy to support with this process. Please feel free to contact him at [email protected] or 07727169535
