MHFA is an evidence-based, early-intervention course. Just as CPR helps you assist a person having a heart attack, MHFA teaches you how to assist someone who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. Youth MHFA focuses on ages 12-18.
WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THE COURSE?
The course introduces common mental health challenges, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan on how to help in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
WHO SHOULD COMPLETE THIS COURSE?
Parents, guardians, grandparents, and caregivers of BV students who want to better understand common mental health challenges and be able to support their child or another youth if they experience a mental health or substance use challenge or crisis.
REQUIREMENTS
REGISTER: Submit the online form and $50 fee* by 3pm on Friday, November 1
PRE-WORK: Complete the 2-hour online portion of the course by Sunday, November 10
IN-PERSON: Complete all 5 hours of training on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 12 and 13, 4-6:30pm, Hilltop Conference Center
*$50 fee covers: all training (online an in-person) and materials; snacks at the in-person training sessions; Youth MHFA certificate on completion of full course and exam. Please note that the fee is non-refundable.
