About this Event
The Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) 2-day course teaches adults how to provide initial support to young people (aged 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis, until professional help is received.
The course is facilitated by Angela Tallon, an experienced Community Education Facilitator and Accredited Mental Heath First Aid Instructor. Angela brings a wealth of practical knowledge and understanding to the course.
Course participants learn about adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in young people, where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental health disorder, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.
This course is being sponsored by HealthWISE and is kindly being offered free of charge to participants. All Catering and a YMHFA manual will be supplied as well as the opportunity to become a certified Mental Health First Aider.
Participants must attend the 2 full days to be certified. Participants are asked to arrive on time for a prompt 9:00am start.
This course is appropriate for adults 18 years and over who work with young people. Participants do not need any prior mental health qualifications or knowledge. Participants in this course are often a range of professionals, including school staff, community workers, youth workers, social workers, school based youth health nurses, and more.
Please note, in accordance with YMHFA standards, we do require a minimum number of participants to run this course. In the rare instance that we do not meet minimum numbers, we will notify you as soon as we can to discuss rescheduling to another date.
