About this Event

Description:

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to adolescents (ages 12-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

WHAT IT COVERS • Common signs and symptoms of mental illnesses in this age group, including: Anxiety, Depression, Eating disorders, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) • Common signs and symptoms of substance use. • How to interact with an adolescent in crisis. • How to connect the adolescent with help.

**Montgomery County Ohio residents (or those working in the county) and those in the surrounding area will be given preference. If you are from outside this area you can find classes near you here: https://www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org/

* Please do not register for this class if you have taken Adult Mental Health First Aid in the last 12 months.

COST: $20.00

Fees charged will be refunded upon completion of the class. Those registering but not attending (including those who do not complete the required pre-work), will not be refunded. Cancellations will be accepted and refunded up to 24 hours prior to the training. The refund will return to the original payment method within 5-7 business days. Please note that additional convenience fees are charged by the registration website and these are non-refundable.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

2 hours of pre-work online (self-paced) that must be completed prior to the session date

6 hour IN PERSON class

Please arrive on-time and dressed in preparation for temperature fluctuations that may occur in the training room. Coffee and water will be provided. There will be two fifteen minute breaks offered during the day along with a half hour for lunch. Lunch will not be provided. Please feel free to bring any food items you may require during the training.

CERTIFICATIONS & CONTINUING EDUCATION:

Participants that complete the full course will secure a three-year certification.

CEUs

Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services has been approved by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board to offer continuing education credit hours to Counselors and Social Workers (Provider #RCS111304) and the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board to offer recognized clock hours to Chemical Dependency Counselors (C1=1, C2=5, C7=1) and Prevention Professionals (P2=5, P3=1, P6=1) (Provider #50-17863) and has approved this training for 7 hour of CEUs.

In order to ethically provide certification through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, we use a platform that generates attendance time reports. We must have a total time in attendance for each participant and we are ethically bound to report the accumulated amount of time a participant attended, therefore we cannot issue certification to:

  • Individuals sharing a monitor, computer, and/or login
  • Individuals joining by audio phone only
  • Individuals missing more than 30 minutes


By registering and attending this session, you acknowledge and agree that your photo may be taken and used by Montgomery County ADAMHS. If you do not agree to have your photo used, you must contact the organizer prior to the class.
