About this Event
Youth Mental Health First Aid trains adults—such as parents, teachers, and caregivers—on how to support adolescents (ages 12-18) facing mental health or addiction challenges. The course covers common youth mental health issues, adolescent development, and a 5-step action plan for aiding young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics include anxiety, depression, substance use, psychotic disorders, disruptive behavior disorders (like AD/HD), and eating disorders.
How Blended Youth MHFA Works: Participants will be complete 2 hours of online self-paced coursework followed by a scheduled 5 hour instructor led- class held in person. The in-person Instructor led portion of this course will be held on Saturday, March 22 from9:00am - 3:30pm at Elmhurst Hospital at 155 E Brush Hill Rd, Elmhurst, IL 60126.
What it Costs: $25.00 per participant, $55.00 for 5.5 CEU's ( LCPC/LPC, LCSW/LSW, LMFT and Psychologist).
The Youth Mental Health First Aid Introduction is a self-paced e-learning course that consists of four segments.
- Welcome and introduction to YMHFA.
- Mental health and mental illness in youth.
- Typical adolescent development.
- Recognizing signs and symptoms.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid Skills Application portion of the course consists of:
- Welcome to Youth Mental Health First Aid.
- Youth Mental Health First Aid self-paced introduction recap.
- Youth Mental Health First Aid in non-crisis situations.
- Youth Mental Health First Aid in crisis situations.
- Self-care for the Youth Mental Health First Aider
Prior to the virutal instructor led session, you will receive an email titled "MHFA: Let’s get started!" that will contain log in information and steps that need to be taken to complete your pre-work. This pre-work needs to be completed 24 hrs prior to the In Person Instructor led portion of this course
