Wellfleet Preservation Hall will be hosting a four day long film workshop for youth ages 10-18 as part of their 2024 Wellfleet Youth Film Festival.
This workshop is free to participate in, but pre registration is required. You can register at www.wellfleetpreservationhall.org or by calling 508-349-1800.
Participants can expect to learn about the filmmaking process from first ideas through first screenings. This four day, hands-on workshop will cover topics including screenwriting, script development, production design, post production and more. This workshop will look at different forms that films can take and study some examples of different genres. It will also look at blocking, lighting, sound and editing. The course will be tailored to the ages and experience of the student pool. Participants will learn skills that could help them make a movie to submit to the 2024 Wellfleet Youth Film Festival later this year!
About the instructor:
Mick Thyer is a commercial, theater, and feature film director, actor and writer. Mick has worked for Disney UK, A Band Apart, Funnyordie, Blue Cicada Films and Beach Glass Films to name just a few. He has worked in Europe, his homeland of Australia, and throughout America in a wide spectrum of theater and film projects.
In 2018, he directed his first feature film in Belgrade, Serbia, titled 48 Hours and One Minute, which is currently slated for distribution. His most recent acting work was in the psychological thriller, CHEAT, produced by 418 Films and distributed by Black Mandala, which premiered at FRIGHTFEST in London in August to many positive reviews, and his most recent directing work is presently on another thriller titled Return to Helltown in Cape Cod, MA.
He is slated to direct his next feature, the psychological thriller Awoken in Ohio in August of this year starring WWE Wrestler Malakai Black, Suanny Serpas and Black Mirror’s Jamie Christoferson.
Mick has also directed commercials for Healthy Young Minds, Joyryder, industrials and music videos. He continues to also teach screenwriting, narrative fiction and nonfiction at various institutions around the US.
