Dr Chris Whatman
Chris originally qualified as a physiotherapist and worked in private practice and with various sports teams for over 10 years prior to becoming an academic. He gained his Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia and his PhD from Auckland University of Technology.
Chris is currently Head of Department, Sport and Exercise Science and a member of the Sports Performance Research Institute NZ where he works with the Sports Injury Prevention group. He teaches in the areas of Applied Anatomy and Applied Sports Biomechanics. The current focus of his research is the prevention of sports injuries in youth with a focus on neuromuscular warm-up, athlete development pathways and knowledge/attitudes to injury. He has current research collaborations with New Zealand (NZ) Rugby, Netball NZ, NZ Football and Basketball NZ.
Chris is the Editor of the New Zealand Journal of Sports Medicine and on the National Council of Sports Medicine New Zealand.
