Prerequisite: None. This is an ongoing class for current students and a mandatory class for any student new to CASA 0101, regardless of previous experience.
Given the overwhelming demand, attendance for this program is mandatory, and students are kindly requested not to miss more than 2 classes. Please only register if you are sure you will be able to attend all classes.
Class Description: We will create stories incorporating movement, dance, music and life experiences by building trust through theater games and exploration of the power of our voices. Everyone’s story is of value. Let’s have fun!
A final showcase performance will take place during the last class.
At the end of this class, students who are in good standing and have met the requirements will be invited to join our Musical Theater program on Saturdays, if space is available.
Instructor: Raquel Salinas
Raquel Salinas is a cultural artist who writes, performs, and teaches the art of storytelling through theater. She engages her students in theater games and exercises to find their voice. Voices that we seldom hear. Raquel has worked teaching theater workshops with children, youth and as an artist in residence (California Arts Council) with Proyecto Pastoral, Boyle Heights, Mariposa Housing in Pico Union as a grant recipient through Los Angeles Cultural Affairs department and also taught a youth workshop at Casa 0101 with a grant received by The California Endowment. She is presently teaching a workshop with adult women in Spanish for El Nido in Panorama City.
