Join St. Petersburg Fire Rescue in celebrating the arrival of a new Engine with a "push-in" ceremony!Wednesday, June 26th at 9:00 a.m. at Station 8
4701 9th Street South, St. Petersburg, Florida
What is a Push-In Ceremony?
Well, it's just like it sounds! A push-in ceremony is a time-honored tradition in the fire service that celebrates the introduction of a new fire apparatus at a station, symbolizing unity and collaboration within the community it serves. This custom dates back to the era of horse-drawn fire equipment when firefighters had to manually push the heavy steam engines back into the station after each call, as the horses could not walk backward.
On Wednesday, firefighters will spray Engine 8 in a ceremonial "wash down." Then, community members are invited to participate in the pushing of Engine 8 into its bay, marking its official placement into service. This ceremony not only upholds a cherished tradition but also highlights the city's dedication to enhancing public safety through the investment in new, life-saving equipment.
Join us in celebrating this momentous occasion and help SPFR PUSH Engine 8 into service!
FUN FACTS:
-The new apparatus is equipped with "clean cab" features to reduce carcinogen exposure as part of the department's cancer reduction initiative.
-Engine 8 is fully equipped with "Advanced Life Support" capabilities for adults and pediatrics.
-The new apparatus will go into service at Station 8, serving the neighborhoods of Driftwood, Old South Each, Lake Maggiore Shores, and surrounding neighborhoods.
-As part of its fleet replacement plan, SPFR will receive two more engines in 2024.
