From a little boy in red dirt East Texas to Vietnam, Mr. Minor’s presence has always been appreciated, and the respect has also been well deserved. As a soldier or an actor, his talent saves the day. Over the course of a few decades Willie Minor mentored 100’s of young talents in live theater and screen with diligence and perfection. Some would say his heart is the size of the moon. The father of two, Willie encouraged his kids to be independent and follow their dreams. He coaches his actors on consistency and preparation. Any and everyone who has ever crossed his path walked away with knowledge and a better understanding of self-expression and purpose. This love for people built a foundation in the nonprofit sector, activist and a pillar in the community.
Either on the set of “Walker Texas Ranger” or alongside Tom Cruise in the patriotic film “Born on the Fourth of July” Mr. Minor star shines bright. Directing or performing in stage plays such as August Wilsons’” Piano Lesson” and “Fences” has given Willie Minor the opportunity to work with top talent from around the world. But all his accolades never were more important than the joy he gets from teaching the kids in the Sankofa Youth Acting Group at the African American Museum. Their annual production of Langston Hughes’ “The Black Nativity” keeps Mr. Minor humble and grateful each holiday season.
This dinner is to honor his legacy. Willie gives him all or nothing. The Citizens' Committee to Save Our Children was founded due to the importance of supporting the future generations to come. Be it a theater summer camp, scholarships or community events like the annual Harambee Festival. His passion will always be to help people with a "cool head and warm heart".
