This month the expertly curated storytelling show You’re Being Ridiculous celebrates Queer Pride with a benefit for the Women's Voices Fund, the non-profit arm of Women & Children First bookstore! This event will be held at our favorite bar, Whiskey Girl Tavern. To add some extra fun, Whiskey Girl will be unveiling a signature W&CF 45th Anniversary cocktail just for the occasion!
These funny, true stories will represent a diverse range of folks, who stand proudly on different points on the LGBTQIA spectrum.
Our featured readers include:
Jeremy Owens,
C Russell Price,
Linda Bubon,
Maya Haughton
Elizabeth Gomez,
& Jackie Linn
Tickets are $15 & will be split between the performers and the Women's Voices Fund, which makes all events and programming at W&CF possible! We will also have a pop-up shop of our favorite LGBTQIA+ summer reads!
About the readers:
Linda Bubon is retired from that wonderful bookstore that she helped create in 1979, Women & Children First. She practices being a good grandma to 5 amazing kids, reads a lot, cheers for the Chicago Sky, walks her dog, Mooshy, and looks forward to spending time with her adult son, Max.
Elizabeth Gomez is a Korean Puerto Rican queer middle-aged lady, writer, storyteller, podcaster, and founder of The Windy City Rollers, Chicago’s first all-female roller derby league. She's loud, she's proud, and she's only had one yeast infection her whole life! Check out her newsletter Mixed Race Tape on substack to read about all the dumb things in her head.
Maya Haughton is an actor and teaching artist based out of Chicago, IL. She is currently an ensemble actor at The Second City. Maya has also worked with Whirled News Tonight, Baby Wants Candy, The Musical Armando, and Improv Asylum (Boston).
Jackie Linn is a Filipino-American comedian born and raised in Los Angeles. She has been notoriously known to "prescribe laughter as medicine.” Surrounded by the glamour of Hollywood, she decided to pursue entertainment in 2012 starting as an actress. Jackie is notably known for her role as Blair McGunty on Mr. Student Body President that aired on Go90 and Amazon Prime. She is also the founder of a weekly show called Big Break Comedy at Holiday Club. www.jackielinn.com/comedian
Jeremy Owens is a core faculty member for Story Studio, the creator and host of You're Being Ridiculous, and writes your favorite substack newsletter ... Gays Judge the Neighborhood. C.
Russell Price is a Lambda Fellow, Ragdale Fellow, Windy City Times 30 Under 30 Honoree, and a 2 time Lit City Top 50 Writers of Chicago Honoree. They are the author of Tonight, We Fuck the Trailer Park Out of Each Other and Oh, You Thought This Was A Date?!: Apocalypse Poems. They are a poet in residence with the Chicago Poetry Center, a core faculty member for Story Studio and an editor with The Anarchist Review of Books. They’re writing about a ghost cowboy and his ghost blue horse these days. Less honk, more tonk.
