Are you a local food producer who is confused by the changing food safety rules? Have you avoided expanding your market, or are you starting a new food venture because it’s not clear how to comply with the regulations? Join The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center as we talk about Your Food Business Recipe.This participative session will guide you through the Food Safety Modernization Act’s rules for produce, preventive controls for human foods, and traceability. You’ll learn how to manage risks related to selling a product that people eat or drink, and leave the session with tools to apply what you learned to your unique products and business model. A guest food business owner will tell how they managed risks showing how the rewards can become a reality.
This two-hour session is appropriate for:
- Farmers who currently direct market or add value to what they grow
- Food processors who use locally grown products
- Prospective and current small-batch producers who are, or may be impacted by current food safety rules
- Growing food businesses that want to explore expanding from direct sales to interstate, internet or wholesale
