About this Event

In this panel discussion, we will welcome three of our MSc Criminology & Criminal Justice graduates and hear about their career journeys from the classroom to their current role.

Each of our alumni will describe the key stepping stones in their career, and the skills and learning they acquired during their Masters in SPS. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions of each guest, finding out more about the career opportunities and challenges they have faced to date.

Panellists:

Georgia Kyriacou
After spending almost a decade in higher education across three degrees; MA Business & Management (2021), LLB Law (2024), and MSc Criminology & Criminal Justice (2025), Georgia recently began working full time at The Turing Trust. This small charity, founded by the great nephew of Alan Turing, is based near Edinburgh and provides digital educational resources to disadvantaged communities both in the UK and further afield. Whilst undertaking her LLB and MSc, Georgia both volunteered and worked as a coordinator for multiple projects, including; the Strathclyde Law Clinic, the Miscarriages of Justice Project (MOJO), and the Deaths in Custody Project. With a particular interest in the intersection of inequality, urban space, and criminal justice, Georgia hopes to soon pursue PhD study in Criminology and embark upon a further career in academia.

Sami Whitmore
Sami graduated with her MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Glasgow in 2025. Sami came to the University as an international student from the United States. Prior to undertaking her Masters, Sami worked as a civil litigation paralegal in Oregon for over three years. During her time at the University, Sami participated in the practice hub and had the opportunity to work on research projects alongside her studies. Following graduation, Sami accepted a case manager position with a criminal justice reform organisation in Vermont, offering low-barrier support for high needs populations.

Joy Cowan
Joy graduated from the University of Glasgow with a master’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2021. She currently works as a Document Production Assistant at Turcan Connell and previously worked as a Public Inquiry Legal Assistant at the Sheku Bayoh Inquiry.
