About this Event
Join Tyler Allen Penny while he leads teens through a ghost story writing workshop: What Still Lies in the Dark: A Ghost Story Workshop
It lives in the periphery; you catch it out of the corner of your eye. A quick movement. A shadowed figure. A whisper from the dark corner, footsteps coming from the empty attic, noises in the basement. Something in there has occupied this land, this house, this very room for years and it won’t leave. It’s getting closer.
In this 3-hour generative writing workshop, we'll explore ghosts and similar supernatural entities through prompts and writing exercises, and begin our own drafts of bone-chilling ghost stories. We’ll discuss aspects of hauntings, and how to craft atmosphere, pacing, structure, suspense, and the fear of the unknown. Writers will draw on inspiration from local haunted sites, myths, folklore, and should be prepared for a very spooky time! Participants are encouraged to bring laptops if possible, but not required.
