Mosaics are an accessible medium that provide a creative and innovative way to personalize and transform any space. This hands on workshop uses ceramic shards, mirror and glass adhered to substrate boards which are wired to hang on the wall for interior or exterior use.
Day 1 10:00-3:30
Learn from images and examples about materials, design, gray scale, color, the use of tile and scoring tools and the appropriate adhesives for each project. Complete design and cement your own piece.
Bring a Brown Bag lunch
Day 2 10:00-1:00
Learn about grout color, consistency and application then grout and finish your own mosaic.
Bette Ann Libby has been a painter, mosaic & ceramic artist for over 50 years Initially a production potter who made her own glazes, participated in numerous craft fairs and creates ceramic sculpture and mosaics using her own "mythology" many which focusing on strong women and home.
She has made art from upcycled materials using ceramic shards, returned house paint samples and banners and has created numerous community mosaic murals.
In 1999, she founded "Studios Without Walls., site specific sculpture along Olmsted's Emerald Necklace in Brookline, MA, now in its 24th year from May 27th to September 4th.
Bette Ann is passionate about bringing art to communities and providing stipends for artists through grants and fundraising.

Supplies:
Instructor supplies a good amount of shards collected in CV to use in the class, substrates wired to hang, choices of sanded grout and tile cement. Additional tools to experiment with and Inspiration!
Students bring tiles nipper, hammer, safety glasses (or regular glasses), and a garden glove. Bring enough shards to swap and share and to cover a 12x12" board. Zip lock bags for sorting your shard and Enthusiasm!
