About this Event
"The waste isn't an enemy to be conquered. It is an orphan from the circle of life."
Those words, spoken by Oneida engineer David Powless in 1987, launched the search that became Radical Joy for Hard Times more than 20 years later.
When Trebbe Johnson met David, she was part of a small team making a video about his work recycling enormous mounds of steel waste. Moved by the concept of regarding waste as something to be valued, cared for, and revitalized, Trebbe began exploring ways in which people could acknowledge the grief they feel for loved places that have been damaged or destroyed and reconnect with them through storytelling and creativity.
That search became in 2009.
At the end of December, Trebbe will step down as executive director and Lizabeth Kashinsky of Honolulu, Hawaii will assume that position. We are excited about this transition, which comes at a time when so many people are looking for creative ways to meet big changes in their own lives and in the world.
On January 4, 2025, RadJoy celebrates 16 years of pioneering work for people and the places they love. We'll look ahead to the future and celebrate you and the other members of our global network.
Because, truly YOU ARE RADICAL JOY!
