York: Women Witches Warriors Adult Storytelling Walking Tour Part Two

After rave reviews, this one-woman street performance is back to introduce you to more of the Women of York who walked before you. A ghost walk with a difference & a pay-what-you-feel policy at the end of the show.

"Each woman's story is told by the guide, Sasha, in a stylish, lyrical manner, quite different to the other walking tours we've done." - Audience Member

"Captivating storytelling with a feminist agenda." - Grand Opera House York

After launching late in the summer of 2023, this year, Sasha Parker, York-based storyteller is back at the start of summer 2024 armed with another army of Women, Witches, and Warriors from across the eras, ready to bring them all back to life on the streets of York, the path they once tread. This is fiction based on fact. A ghost story with a difference, for these spirits return from the grave to help you, not haunt you.

Part One introduced you to the likes of Celtic Queen Cartimandua, Martyr and Saint Margaret Clitherow, and Gentleman Jack Anne Lister. Part Two will bring back to life Saint Helena, Mother of Constantine The Great, Mary Ward who followed in the footsteps of Margaret Clitherow and Ann Walker, the other half of Anne Lister.

Meet the woman behind the man, the woman who gave life to Constantine The Great, she's a Saint for it: Saint Helena. Sasha will let you into Helena's biggest secret, one so big, you might find it hard to believe. The better-half of Anne Lister, Ann Walker would like to finally have her say.

There's a Lookingglass in the Oak Room of Betty's Tearooms Cafe which can tell a story or two, let Sasha introduce you to the Women of WW1 and answer the question: who was Betty?

Learn why just as Margaret Clitherow, Mary Ward deserves to be made Saint too. Now, it's no surprise that back in her day, York was home to a convent of Nuns, but wouldn't you like to know why they have been labelled The Naughty Nuns? And why Joan of Leeds might have been the naughtiest.

The Queens of Confectionary once called York home: Mary Tuke and Mary Anne Craven but business didn't come easy to them thanks to the men of the Merchant Adventures Hall. Hear their story and their plight.

Anne Fairfax has one or two things to say about what went on behind closed doors in her Fairfax House. Queen Ethelburga will tell you the tale of the real Game of Thrones. Allow Elizabeth Montagu and Sarah Scott show you just how contrasting their lives were.

Sasha Parker is one of York's local lasses and has trained with the Storytelling Goddess that is Shonaleigh Cumbers, the last known Drut'syla. So it's safe to say, Sasha knows how to tell a tale or two.

This adult storytelling tour is rated 15+ as the content is aimed at a mature audience.

Starting outside Bennett's Cafe and Bistro, 30-32 High Petergate, York, YO1 7EH, Sasha will lead you along York's cobbled streets to unearth the Women of York, the Women who helped make this city what she is.

With limited spaces available, don't miss out, book your spot now.

Sasha has waivered the usual £12 ticket price and has instead decided to implement a 'pay-what-you-feel-and-can-afford' policy at the end of the show, Sasha feels very strongly that these stories should be shared with everyone despite what they can afford. Booking is essential as spaces are limited to ensure an intimate storytelling experience. Please only book if you can make it.

Due to some of the themes being of an adult nature, we have placed a parental advisory of 15 years or over on this storytelling walking tour. Themes of adultery, sexual abuse, and physical abuse are covered. Of course, as always, it remains to be at the parent's discretion.
