Join us for a creative response to the future we want. It’s an open mic, so come to perform, come to support or both.
About this Event

Solving the climate and environmental crisis isn’t just parts per million and dizzying numbers. It’s also about shifting our culture and what we care about. It’s also about dreaming up how we want to live and love.

Calling for poets, storytellers, singers, musicians, comedians, artists and all those people who’ve only written one poem, story or song! Have a go at performing on stage and sharing your creativity with a friendly audience.

Our theme is around ‘hopeful futures’ because, “After all”, as Gloria Steinam says, “dreaming is a kind of planning.”

  • What world do we want to build?
  • What other issues can we tackle at the same time?
  • What will our days look like, smell like, taste like when we are on the other side of this crisis?

If you’d like to perform, please contact [email protected] in advance although there will be slots available on the day.

And calling the curious, these brave performers need an audience. These performances will be the new myths of our times, they need to be heard, absorbed, witnessed. And then talked about and spread. Join us downstairs at The Den @ The Micklegate Social for a reflective and joyous afternoon.

The event will be hosted by Sophia Cheng, of With Many Roots.

Thank you to Micklegate Social for kindly providing the venue.

What We Do

The aim of YorkCliConnect is to support and strengthen the community that understands, communicates and takes action on the Climate and Nature Emergencies we are all facing.

By connecting people, projects and organisations in York we facilitate the sharing of knowledge and resources, reduce duplication of effort, support and encourage one another, and grow our community.

Who We Are

The York CliConnect project began in April 2023 as a collaboration between three climate and nature educators – Abi, Sophia and Lynda – with invaluable admin support from Maddie and funding from the York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI).

After an encouraging first phase, and now as a YESI-supported network, we are looking for the best ways to provide educational and collaboration opportunities for our community.

YorkCliConnect is helping build York Resilience Web.
