Welcome to our new monthly Sunday yoga sessions. In this new season, we welcome Kamilah as our monthly yoga instructor. Classes will be on the 4th Sunday each month with even months being Yoga Nidra and odd months being Yin Yoga. Come learn and restore in our sacred space. Class investment cost is $11.11. Space is limited.Yoga Nidra: Yoga nidra, also known as ‘yogic sleep’, is a simplified form of an ancient tantric relaxation technique. The most general description of the practice is that it combines guided mental imagery with a specific yoga posture called Shavasana (or “corpse pose”). The goal of yoga nidra is to promote a profound state of relaxation, which differs from sleep, inasmuch as there is still an awareness of one’s surroundings.
Yin Yoga: Yin Yoga has the same goals and objectives as any other school of yoga; however, it directs the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues (which we are calling the yang tissues). Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.
Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.
