About this Event
4 WEEK SERIES | Thursdays, May 2 - May 23, 2024 - 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Led by Sally Williams, MA, RYT-200; Co-Led by Chris Bayless, LPC, RYT-200

Each new phase of parenthood presents unique milestones, joys, and challenges, but the consistent thread throughout every phase is the need for parents to be able to regulate their own emotions and nervous systems in order to help their children regulate themselves and to foster a supportive, emotionally literate family dynamic. We often hear how important it is to self-regulate before engaging in high-intensity interactions with our children, but it is often less clear how exactly to do this. Add in outside stressors, mental health challenges, and the busyness that characterizes so much of modern family life, and this kind of self-regulation can feel inaccessible.
In this four-week series, we will combine clinical psycho-education with yogic practices including mudras (hand positions), pranayama (yogic breathwork), asana (physical practice), and Yoga Nidra (guided yogic relaxation) to teach you about your nervous system and give you real, tangible tools for practicing self-regulation on the spot when challenging parenting situations arise.
This is a trauma-informed practice and modifications will be offered to suit differences in comfort levels and needs. Practitioners of all levels are welcome, and no previous yoga experience is necessary. Please bring a mat if you have one, or email the facilitators to borrow a mat at no extra cost. The class fee includes an eye pillow for you to keep, an informational packet with clinical information and yogic practices for you to refer to and make notes on, and continued access to class audio recordings so that you can follow along with the practices at home once the class has concluded.
ABOUT THE TEACHERS:

Sally Williams, MA, RYT-200

I began teaching yoga in 2011 in Fort Collins, CO. I taught in local studios, and in the Boulder County J*il and other correctional facilities after doing the Pr*son Yoga Training with James Fox in 2012. I received the Trauma-Sensitive Yoga certification and Overcoming Anxiety certification from Sundara Yoga Therapy in Austin, TX in 2013. Practicing trauma-informed yoga and Yoga Nidra in correctional facilities and with underserved populations inspired me to get my Masters in Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology from Naropa in 2017. After graduating, I provided psychotherapy and therapeutic yoga to people transitioning out of J*il and Pr*son. After having my own kids, I transitioned to working with new parents, people with complex trauma and c-PTSD, and adults with ADHD. I am now a registered psychotherapist, yoga therapist, and coach in private practice in Boulder County.
I have been working in the counseling profession for more than 20 years. The impact this work has made on my life is vast. The privilege of being able to witness the human experience, as I have, has had a profound effect on my life. Thru my twists and turns, I came to believe that helpers are most effective when they use treatments that integrate the mind and body-such as yoga and yoga nidra. As someone who has managed auto-immune disorders and chronic pain throughout life, I have turned toward many modalities, alternative treatments and daily rituals to help keep my body feeling well. I will never tell you I have all the right answers or all the right cures, however by letting you know that I come from a place of "understanding" I find that our working relationship is that much richer and hopefully results in you feeling less alone in whatever journey of healing you may be on.
