Using the ancient tools of yoga and the yoga sutras we will explore the mind and body, gaining clear understanding on how to adapt classes and private sessions for those with anxiety or depression and how to adapt and modify for the individual meeting them where they are.Upon successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Understand:
· And explain the influence of familial, social, cultural and religious conditioning on mental and medical perspectives of health and healing.
Explain:
· The process of anxiety and depressing, the stress response and how we, as yoga therapists assess, meet and transform emotion.
Describe:
· The tools of the yoga practice and postures that offer relief from anxiety and depression.
Define:
· Langhana and Brahmana Therapies for transforming the mood
Required reading: Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers by Robert Salpolski (Chapters 13-18) and The Principles and Practice of Yoga and Health by Sat Bir Signh Khalsa, Timothy McCall, and Lorenzo Cohen.
Materials to bring: standard yoga props (2 blocks, 2 blankets (or 1 blanket and 1 bolster), and strap), large bolster .
Course Completion Requirements: Attending and participating in the course module (or completing makeup assignments given by the teacher). Assess the four case studies and complete an assessment form for each of the case studies.
