Learn about the origins and benefits of Yoga Nidra, and experience a restorative 'yogic sleep' practice for yourself.
About this Event

In our busy world, proper rest is rare. In this nourishing session, learn how Yoga Nidra can soothe the soul and slow the mind, taking time for yourself to reconnect and replenish.

Rest is more than just sleep. It forms the foundation of physical health, emotional stability, and mental clarity. Yet, many of us find it difficult to switch off - our bodies may be still, but our minds keep racing.

Yoga Nidra, sometimes called “yogic sleep,” provides a gateway to true rest. Practised lying down with closed eyes, it guides the body into a state of profound relaxation while the mind remains suspended between wakefulness and sleep. Research indicates that Yoga Nidra lowers stress, improves sleep quality, reduces anxiety, and boosts creativity and concentration.

In this 90-minute evening experience, Rory Singer (psychotherapist, teacher, and Clinical Director of New Road Psychotherapy) will lead a talk and Q&A on the science and psychology of deep rest, followed by a comprehensive Yoga Nidra practice.

You will learn:

  • What Yoga Nidra is, and how it differs from meditation or sleep
  • How it affects the nervous system and mental wellbeing
  • Simple ways you can integrate deep rest into daily life

This session is open to all - no prior yoga or meditation experience needed. Simply wear comfortable clothing and bring an openness to pause, breathe, and rest deeply.

This event is part of Brighton Wellness Festival: a city-wide celebration of holistic health and wellbeing, taking place 1–8 October 2025. Powered by a year-round community of wellness practitioners, BWF exists to promote authentic, inclusive and grounded wellness across Brighton and beyond.
