Join Deanna for a six-week series to boost your immune system. Each week, we will cover a different topic related to the immune system/yoga practice. Series will be recorded and shared by email. Some of the Topics we will cover:
Breath Comes First: Conditioning the lungs and respiratory tract with proper breathing, releasing the fascia of the rib cage and diaphragm, working with the breath to reduce stress, create heart rate variability, assist in detoxification
Balance the Nervous System: The nervous system is intimately tied to the immune system. When we balance the nervous system, we reduce cortisol levels and decrease inflammation, improve vagal tone and communication between the brain and body organs, relax the fascia to facilitate energy flow and promote lymphatic system health. Learn about the HPA axis and its importance in immune health.
Boost the Lymphatic System: Learn the importance of the lymphatic system and how yoga helps decrease lymphatic congestion and promotes detoxification. The lymphatic system relies on our good breathing and movement to operate effectively. Learn major areas of lymphatic activity in the body and how yoga prevents stagnation in these areas.
Boost the Glymphatic System: The glymphatic system (brain's waste clearance) and the immune system are deeply connected, with the glymphatic system acting as a crucial pathway for immune surveillance and waste removal, draining toxins and immune cells from the brain. Dysfunctional glymphatic drainage can trigger inflammation and contribute to neurodegenerative diseases by failing to clear harmful proteins and allowing immune cells to overreact. Keeping the glymphatic system healthy also promotes healthy sinuses and reduces headaches.
Gut Connection: Your gut and immune system are deeply connected, with about 70% of immune cells residing in the gut, where trillions of microbes (the microbiome) train, regulate, and influence immune responses against pathogens while preventing attacks on your own body. Yoga helps promote healthy digestion, heals the smooth muscle of the digestive tract and releases stagnation from the digestive organs.
Enhance Circulation: The circulatory and immune systems are deeply intertwined, with the circulatory system (heart, blood, vessels) acting as the highway that transports immune cells (like white blood cells) and signals throughout the body to detect, fight, and clear pathogens, while the immune system protects the circulatory system from infections and buildup, ensuring smooth blood flow and overall health. Through movement and breath, yoga helps promote healthy circulation.
