About this Event

Yoga with Zoe

Life can be stressful. Practicing yoga brings a “little bit of calm” and can benefit people of all ages whether you're active or not.

It can impact positively on the body by bringing suppleness, mobility, strength, and peace. Our classes with Zoe are aimed at all abilities.

You'll be asked to listen in to your body, to practice with physical awareness and welcomed sensations only. Postures are chosen for their physical benefit. Maybe to strengthen a back or a glute. Or to strengthen a hip flexor or stretch a hamstring.

You'll tune in to your breath and tension patterns too.

Classes include classic asana, functional movement and techniques from Somatic movement and Fascia release with the aim of strengthening and freeing up movement.

Classes are taught mindfully, paying attention to the fact that not everyone’s body is the same and everyone has their own limits.

Benefits of yoga

The benefits of yoga are many!

Firstly, as a physical practice, it can undo tension, stiffness, and tightness that the body picks up over the day or weeks from the lives we lead. We do that by performing postures that stretch or strengthen the body. From that, we can gain more freedom of movement and reduce pain we may be physically carrying.

Secondly, we learn breath awareness and some breath practices that can really help us let go of stress and help us see more clearly.

Thirdly, from working with the body and the breath, we can calm and soothe the mind.

It has been proven that these practices reduce stress and inflammation in the body.

Before a class

  • Whilst it is advised to not eat a huge meal before practice, please ensure you have enough energy to participate.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that you can move around freely in. And a blanket to lay underneath in relaxation, or to use as a pillow if needed.
  • Please let the teacher know beforehand of any injuries or physical conditions you may have, so that classes can be adapted, should they need to be. Most postures can be modified.
  • YOu should always practice what is right for you, so if you feel that a posture is not for you, you should listen to you body and stop. Postures are merely suggestions of practice.
  • The teacher rarely places hands on to assist in a pose, if anything, a light touch of a hand to bring awareness of something. If you do not want this assistance, please let the teacher know. It is rare that this happens. Cues are usually verbal.
  • The class would entail, a brief chat about what we will do, body awareness relaxation, warming up postures, standing postures and some seated or reclined postures, breath work and relaxation
