This project always had a social background.
In January 2018, for the first time, I organized in Minsk the Yellow Stars project - on the Memorial Day for the Victims of the Holocaust and Prevention of Crimes against Humanity (January 21th, 2018). For this purpose every year the project was held in the Great Hall of the Belarusian State Philharmonic in Minsk. The project was carried out in Belarus 4 times.
Personal story
The organizer of the memorial evening, Anna Lenkova, on the importance of the event: “The concert was born from my family story. My great- grandmother, Irina Masyukevich, is the Righteous Among the Nations. During World War II, she saved a Jewish family. A memorial stone with her name is located on the alley of the Righteous Among the Nations in Bobruisk, and her initials are engraved on the Wall of Honor of the Righteous Among the Nations in Yad Vashem. People should not allow such a tragedy, which is why Memorial Day is so important for all people”.
The name of the concert was given by the work of Isaac Schwartz’s “Yellow Stars'', that was inspired and dedicated to the Swedish diplomat - Raoul Wallenberg who saved the lives of many thousands Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust from German Nazis and Hungarian Fascists, he was detained by the Red Army during the Siege of Budapest and later died in the KGB prison in Moscow. Unfortunately, this story is not very well known to the Montenegrin public, so it’s worth paying more attention to it, talking about it, because it can help put together the historical puzzle and allow people to learn something new about the history of the Shoah.
This project is important not only for the Jewish community of the country, but also for the entire society.
In my opinion, it is necessary to fill the gaps, to give new generations the opportunity to learn history and remember, continue to remember what happened, so that every person considers himself part of something larger and does not consider himself part of some exclusive race.
Just as the Righteous Among the Nations existed in Belarus, they also existed in Montenegro and Serbia. And this is an important thread that connects all countries in which people of great strength and mercy lived.
It will be a great happiness when we can all help this project live on.
The intercultural aspect is fundamental, interaction is critical. This is a chance for all participants to get in touch with musical communication, the opportunity to present your culture, tell a story, to discuss, and the possibility of dialogue.
The most important value for us is to unite people through music, to share, collaborate, and create an international Village. We all need it! Unity is strength.
I continue my work towards the revival of the Yellow Stars project, so that it can find its second home.
