Yearnings is a concert of sharing, bringing together gifted local musicians from Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Native American, and Sufi backgrounds. Through song, chant, and story, they will share the sacred sounds and wisdom of their traditions. Though languages, rhythms, and faiths may differ, this music is a universal bridge that transcends boundaries.Featured artists include:
• Balraj Balasubrahmaniyan - Carnatic Singer, Prof., Wesleyan University
• Richie Barshay – Grammy-winning percussionist
• Justin C. Beatty - Native American visual artist, singer, and advocate
• Gloria Matlock - Keeper of Black Spiritual traditions, community activist
• Umer Pirachna – Sufi singer, research collaborator Harvard Divinity School
• Genivieve Rose – Bassist, Director Smith College Jazz Ensemble
• Felicia Sloin – Jewish ritual singer, family entertainer
• Kevin Sharpe – Jazz/Gospel pianist, New England Urban Music award-winner
