ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS:
This workshop series invites dancers to explore key elements of Argentine Tango beyond traditional structures, focusing on musicality, connection, movement dynamics, and creative
expression. Through a queer tango approach, we will engage with tango’s rich possibilities while embracing an inclusive and non-hierarchical dance experience.
ABOUT YANA KHALILOVA:
Yana began tango in 2006 at the age of 17 in her hometown of St. Petersburg and immediately fell in love with the dance. She began as a follower, but soon became interested in leading and began learning and dancing both roles.
After studying for several years with various Russian and some well-known Argentinian masters, she started teaching tango in Russia. She was one of the organizors of the first Queer Tango Festival in Russia in 2014.
Yana also started teaching in various European cities (including Barcelona, Paris, Munich, and Berlin) and moved to Berlin in 2018.
Since then, Yana has taught regularly at venues including Mala Junta Berlin. Yana is currently working with Evi Sofra (Berlin) and Natalia Fures (Buenos Aires). Together with Victoria Geier, she organizes the monthly Atípica Queer Milonga Berlin.
Yana places great emphasis on musicality and precise dance technique. Freedom and connection within the couple are equally present in her dance. For Yana, tango dancing means active and
conscious following, as well as sensitive and attentive leading. Communication and interaction as an equal dialogue within the couple are the keys to a harmonious dance experience.
