About this Event
Join us at the University of Calgary's XR Open House to explore the latest innovations and technology in extended reality (XR). This event offers industry professionals the chance to see cutting-edge demos and learn about new developments in the XR space. The students involved are primarily MSc and PhD candidates, and most of the demos result from their ongoing work in applying XR to various use cases, including:
- The use of XR to support autistic individuals
- Showcasing apps targeting sectors such as health, smart cities, defense, and gaming
- Projects aligned with networking and 5G aspects of XR
- Demonstrating the application of VR agents and simulations
This event offers a valuable opportunity for industry partners to explore future collaborations, identify promising talent for internships or hires, and discuss how companies can augment their investments in research with provincial and federal funding programs. Don’t miss the chance to connect with leading researchers and innovators shaping the future of XR!
Demo by Farhan Aslam, Master's Student, Computer Science.
Farhan Aslam will showcase a VR system that allows users to interact with and manipulate 3D objects using natural language commands. By leveraging voice input as the primary mode of interaction, users can seamlessly perform a variety of tasks such as scaling objects to different sizes, moving through virtual spaces (locomotion), rotating items in three dimensions, collapsing complex structures, adjusting object positions, making selections, and zooming in or out for detailed views. The system demonstrates how intuitive and accessible VR interfaces can become when powered by voice technology.
Demo by Naznin Shishir, Master's Student, Computer Science.
This demo highlights the use of eye-tracking technology to streamline object selection and interaction within a 3D VR environment. By looking at an object, users can highlight and select it, allowing for quick and precise interactions. Once selected, the object can be manipulated with a simple hand gesture, making the experience more user-friendly.
