About this Event

Xander Nelson:

Fearlessly fusing the joyous intensity of garage rock and pop-punk with the soulful swagger of blues, this Portland, Maine based singer and guitarist has been turning heads since his debut in the New England music circuit in 2017. His band features Manny Urgiles on guitar, Chuck Martin on drums, and Conor McGrory on bass. Flashing the chops he honed at Berklee College of Music, he and his band have shared the stage with Grammy nominees and local legends alike, and have become known for their high-energy live sets. Unlike most rock artists out there, he gives you both something to pump your fist and shake your hips to.

He has released two critically acclaimed EPs and 3 singles, with songs like "In Time," "Lonely," and "You Got A Problem" getting extensive local radio play on WCYY, WBLM and WCLZ.

Forest City & Friends

Forest City & Friends released “Sol”, the second CD from the Maine-based rock group in March 2022. “Sol" is the follow up to the band's 2020 self-titled debut album, which was released in mid-March 2020, just as the pandemic hit the USA.

The band, which first came together in late 2016, began as a songwriting collaboration between local rock luminaries Pete Giordano (Twisted Roots, Heart Shaped Rock) and Chris Muccino (Endless Interstate, Liquid Daydream) and with the addition of Greg Goodwin (Mercy, Akela Moon) the group quickly assembled an album of songs and began to recruit various “friends” to record with. After the full length debut CD’s release, the band immediately started writing and demo-ing songs for “Sol" and then soon thereafter assembled the current eight piece line-up by adding local music vets Paul Gauer (drums), Sheridan (vocals), Bill Bourassa (guitars), Tom Archer (saxophone/flute) and Tim Myers (percussion). Popular Swedish illustrator Leo Lyxxx, who created the striking cover design for the first album, was brought back in to do the cover for “Sol”.

Lyricist Pete Giordano shared his thoughts on how the new material differed from the debut album: “The new tracks are not as bluesy/jammy and there are elements of funk, acoustic Americana and psychedelic stylings mixed throughout. The lyrics are a little less introspective, with references to menacing birds and a robot old west lawman sprinkled in with other inspired storytelling. The title track was inspired by creation/destruction myths, like how the Hindu texts encoded sacred numbers within the Rigveda. It also inspired by the "Five Suns” myth of the Aztecs and the cycles of destruction that lead to the next cycle, except I changed the destiny of the fifth and final sun in my re-telling”
